Led by our design and delivery studio, UrbanR, we are committed to a zero-carbon future, and are implementing various initiatives across the Forge platform to reduce waste, minimise carbon emissions and consider the full lifecycle impacts of our projects and supply chains.

Exceeding our environmental,
social and governance commitments 

  • Through focusing on reducing emissions throughout our daily activities and offsetting all emissions where generation is unavoidable. 

  • Which creates a clear record of all project decisions against key sustainability criteria setting minimum accreditation targets across all projects including minimum BREEAM Excellent and establishing a pathway to eliminating all Zero Fossil Fuel use across all projects by 2035. Each Project Matrix must be presented to the Reef board quarterly to ensure targets are met.

  • To ensure our practices are always as sustainable as possible. This year Reef have pushed the boundaries of design and innovation in the pursuit of lower carbon solutions within the construction industry. UrbanR’s sustainable design steering group meet monthly to share ideas and drive best practice to ensure our projects are as efficient and low-carbon as possible.

  • We work with contractors to ensure that the job opportunities created are accessible to all local residents. Initiatives such as on site learning hubs are intended to remain in place beyond the duration of construction.

Steering Committee

Our committee will ensure that we deliver best practices across the Forge platform through investment in people, technology, innovation, and knowledge sharing. They will also hold the team accountable for achieving our environmental, social and governance commitments. The committee’s key targets for 2023 are.

  • Ensuring the team continues to operate in a Carbon Negative capacity whilst reducing the requirements for offsets.

  • Continue to be a leader in the development and construction of energy-efficient, low-carbon buildings by reducing, calculating, and setting every project’s environmental impact with a target of Net Carbon Zero Carbon impact across all projects by 2030.

  • Ensuring all projects have a clear pathway to Zero Carbon operation including development of Green Leases & Reef Pathway to Net Carbon Zero operation handbook to be handed to all tenants prior to occupation.

  • Ensure a Post Occupancy Evaluation is carried out for every project to ensure active performance modeling across all projects.

  • Driving excellence in design for wellbeing including incorporating additional amenities in all buildings and monitoring indoor air quality to promote healthier environments for all our buildings users.

  • Continuing to pioneer the reduction of waste in construction through innovation and promoting the responsible use of resources across all projects.

Climate change is accelerating and conscious of the carbon footprint of the construction, real estate and knowledge industries Forge_KN_are working with the Earth & Space Sustainability Initiative, as supported by the UK government, a global drive for Zero Carbon Futures by 2030.

A unique carbon offset programme for energy consumption, whereby our customers can offset their energy against our carbon programme with our partner Xange.com.  

Xange.com developed a scalable Carbon Credit Solution delivering a 360-degree end-to-end system endorsed by United Nations Development System (UNDS).

Technology developed by Xange.com guarantees single use of carbon credits and provides live project checks. Consequently, it facilitates traceability, transparency and trust in the management of carbon credits, from issuance to trading and accounting. 

Services include:

  • Carbon Credits: under United Nations guidance Xange.com offer market infrastructure services for Carbon Credits.

  • ESG Framework: list dedicated fixed income ESG strategies Funds combining ESG focused portfolio construction with active engagement and transparent reporting.
